The Auction - limited edition hardback
Numbered and signed - 1 to 20.
Three years ago, a much loved television presenter lost his career when a young lad died at a house-party.
Police investigated and found no evidence of wrong-doing but "the people" who once loved the presenter were quick to turn against him. It didn't matter there was no evidence linking him to the death. As far as they were concerned, he was guilty. That's when the death threats and wishes of violence started.
It didn't take long for everything to take its toll and the presenter soon disappeared into the shadows.
Three years later.
The presenter crawled out of the shadows and, with him, he brought a website called "The Auction".
The site itself was simple enough. There was an option to bid on "the grand prize" and a timer counting down until that option was gone and the winning bid announced.
And the grand prize?
He's allowing people the chance to bid on killing him. Highest bidder gets to murder him.
Some people question whether he is serious, others hope he is, then some comment "just because"... But, the bids climb and no one is looking away. They're all sitting there watching, judging and waiting for the countdown to hit zero.
The story is told through News bulletins, interviews, online commenting, podcasters, youtubers - and demonstrates how people latch onto stories and make their own "truths" out of the limited information they have.
Some stories have an ending. Others change everything.
